The Government o...Road Rehabilitation Project

The Government of Moldova signed on January 22, 2010 with the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) a five-year economic development Compact contract of $262 million.

One of the major projects of the program is “The Road Rehabilitation Project” of $132.84 million. It seeks to:
• increase the income of the local population through reduced cost of transport and reduced costs of goods and services;
• reduce losses to the national economy resulting from the deteriorated road conditions;
• reduce the number of road accidents through improved traffic conditions.

The Road Rehabilitation Project includes repairs to a 93 kilometer section of a major highway in the northeast of the country (Sarateni – Soroca – Drochia). Also, it will support the rehabilitation of the M2 road (a part of an arterial highway connecting Chisinau to the Ukrainian border and beyond to Kyiv).

The Road Rehabilitation Project is expected to benefit approximately 78,000 households (or approximately 302,000 beneficiaries) over the next 20 years.

The economic efficiency of a state is determined first of all by its infrastructure, the quality of it. Thus the quality of roads directly influence the economic development of the entire country. In such a way the Road Rehabilitation Project will contribute in the improvement of economy of Moldova. Due to this Project, many spheres of the country will benefit such as: tourism, markets (suppliers, consumers), transports, and so on.
Speaking about tourism in Moldova. Despite to the fact that there are many touristic places in Moldova, it is at the lowest level. People are getting afraid when they see these awful roads and they run away.
How markets are going to benefit from this project? The number of costumers are going to increase (for example: some people have a great pleasure when they drive a car, and why don’t to go to shop); suppliers will rapidly serve markets, and the cost of these services are going to decrease. The result is an expended access to markets and services through improved roads.
And finally from repaired roads, transports won’t suffer more.

Analyzing the effects of the project, the strong points of it, I can firmly say that this will be the first step to a “new” Moldova.

Cristina Reshetnic, FB29GEu și cu mine :)https://www.blogger.com/profile/15753668065133719065noreply@blogger.com
